SUN PROTECT™

About

Built for the people who work in the sun

SUN PROTECT is a Health Brands SA initiative. We started from a simple observation: South Africa has some of the strongest UV in the world and millions of outdoor workers, yet sunscreen at work is usually an afterthought bought on price.

Our story

From a product to a programme

Health Brands SA (Pty) Ltd supplies health products to workplaces, clinics and institutions in South Africa. Working alongside occupational health teams, we kept seeing the same gap: employers had a duty to protect outdoor workers from UV and heat, but no simple, documented way to do it.

So we built one. SUN PROTECT combines an SPF 50 broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen in tubes and site pump stations with the tools that make it work: a free workplace UV risk assessment, a policy template, a toolbox talk, posters and a supervisor checklist. The product is the visible part; the programme is what protects people.

Our mission

To make daily sun protection normal, practical and provable on every South African outdoor worksite.

What we stand for

Our values

  • Worker-first

We design for the person on the scaffold, the road or the farm: a lotion that rubs in fast, stations at the point of work and routines that fit a real shift.

  • Evidence-based claims

We say exactly what the product is, SPF 50 broad spectrum (UVA/UVB), and nothing more. Every statistic links to its source, and our compliance page shows what we hold and what we do not yet hold.

  • African skin types

Most South African crews include skin types IV to VI. We say plainly that darker skin is not immune: UV still harms eyes and skin and adds to heat strain, and our training and assessment reflect that.

  • Compliance by design

The risk assessment, policy template, toolbox talk and supervisor checklist are built around OHS Act duties and the hierarchy of controls, so the programme leaves a paper trail an auditor can follow.

  • Local manufacturing

Our aim is to make SUN PROTECT in South Africa with a local contract manufacturer, close to the workplaces we serve, with every batch traceable online.
