Pillar D - Monitoring
Measure it, then improve it
Quarterly on-site audits and a clear KPI set show management, auditors and unions that the programme is real.
The KPI set
Sunscreen usage
Tubes and litres used per worker per month, by site, from reorders and dispenser refills.
Training coverage
Share of workers and supervisors trained, and refresher status.
Control score
Risk assessment score across the 26 controls, per site, quarter on quarter.
Participation
Toolbox-talk attendance and, where offered, SCAN screening participation (aggregated, minimum group of 5).
Incidents
Reported sunburn and heat-related incidents and the actions taken.
Shade provision
Share of work areas and rest points with adequate shade.
Assessment questions for employers
Four questions frame every quarterly review.
- Policy: Do you have a current, written workplace sun protection policy?
- Training: Have all outdoor workers and supervisors received sun safety training?
- Resources: Do workers have shade, sunscreen, clothing, hats and eyewear where they work?
- Monitoring: Are the measures checked and reported regularly?
