Get a free UV risk assessment
Twelve quick questions and a 14-point controls review (form SP-RA-01). You get an instant risk band, an action plan ranked by the hierarchy of controls and a branded PDF for the health and safety file.
Step 1 of 5: Your workplace
Your workplace
Every skin type needs protection. Darker skin burns less easily, but UV still harms the eyes and skin and adds to heat strain. We do not ask for any worker's health information.
How the score works
Each of the 12 questions scores 1, 3 or 5, so the total runs from 12 to 60. There is no low band: outdoor work in South Africa needs sun protection all year. Your controls review then decides the order of the actions.
A. Exposure (5)
Hours outdoors, midday work, months a year, the summer UV Index and altitude.
B. Work system (4)
Shade at work and at breaks, incidents in the last year and task rotation.
C. Hazards (3)
Reflective surfaces, photosensitising substances and heat stress.
- Elevated 12 to 24
- High 25 to 42
- Very high 43 to 60
